WHO AM I?

This story could happen in almost any city of the world.

I work in the city everyday and like most people leave at five and drive or ride the train to my home outside the city. I never leave my office during the day, always I have lunch delivered to my office when everbody orders lunch. Something happened today, that made my life completely different.

Today, the company that normally delivers my favorite lunch, had no one available to deliver. It seemed there was no choice for me, but to go outside during my lunch hour and buy my lunch at the place. I decided no problem, after all it was only a few blocks away.

I knew the rules of walking in the city, look nobody in the face and act like your in a hurry. It should be safe enough to go. So I quickly hurried along the street walking with a purpose. I was waiting at the corner for the light to change, when I noticed a hand written sign on a nearby wall. The sign said in big letters "WHO AM I",so I looked around but did not see anybody.

Just a joke, I thought and continued on my way. The next corner had a even bigger sign on it. The same thing was written "WHO AM I". Still nobody was around so I continued walking. As I crossed the street in the next block, I saw more signs, all asking the same question. I was getting tired of the signs, and all I wanted to do was to buy my lunch and return to my office. Suddenly I saw something, a sign that was diffent from the others. It was handwritten but on it was a short poem.

This is what I read:

WHO AM I?
I am the person inside the old pair of shoes underneath the pile of rags sleeping aginst the wall.

You didn`t see me.

I am the old lady who was crying, with the shopping cart full of clothes, I gave you a smile.

You didn`t see me.

I am the child with the runny nose looking in the rubbish can, you are tall and strong like my daddy who left me and mommy.I wanted you to say hello.
You didn`t see me.

I am the one and I am the many
I could be you, or you could be me.

PLEASE SEE ME, WHO I AM.

As I walked back from lunch, I looked around the street. I thought about how blind I had been before. Suddenly the walk back was different, before I saw but did not see, now I see the world.
